Review: NYX Highlight & Contour Palette

NYX has always been one of my favourite brands from the drugstore, so I was very excited to find out that my local Douglas started selling their Highlight & Contour Pro Palette, one of NYX most famous products apparently. This is actually the first contour palette I've ever tried and I am more than happy about this purchase. You could say I'm a little bit 'Contour Crazy' so this is the perfect product for me. I'm always interested in trying out new products and I hope you'll find this review helpful.

The palette contains eight shades in total - four lighter shades to highlight and four darker shades for the contouring and bronzing. What I love about this palette is that all of the shades included in this palette can be purchased individually. Refillable contour kits are amazing because that way you can customize the palette to your skin tone. There are two additional highlight powders (Bone & Soft Peach) and two contour powder shades (Sienna & Saddle) available as singles.

Ice Queen is a beautiful, cool-toned shade with a frost finish. This shade blends out quite easily and has a semi-opaque coverage. I find that it ever so slightly emphasizes pores if you apply too much product though, so I'd say definitely use a light hand for application. Other than that, this one is a very pretty highlight for cool-toned makeup looks.

Soft Light is a stunning white-beige shade and personally my favourite. I really like the matte finish and it's got a fairly neutral undertone, perfect for your everyday highlight. The texture is buttery smooth and the coverage is just like Ice Queen semi-opaque. I think this is the perfect highlight for fair to medium skin tones.

Cream is a matte yellow shade. Buttery smooth with warm undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation is amazing and I love using this shade under my eyes to set my concealer. It is very easy to blend and really brightens, as well as counteracts dark circles in the under eye area.

Nectar is a super pretty peach highlight with warm undertones and a frost finish. The texture is again, buttery soft and very blendable. The shimmer doesn't emphasize my pores and I really like using this one for a subtle highlight on the tops of my cheekbones and down the center of my nose.

Tan is a medium to dark brown colour with warm, slightly reddish undertones and a satin finish. The pigmentation is amazing, you'll only need a light tap of your brush and you'll be able to pick up more than enough product to contour - same applies to all shades in this palette.

Toffee is a muted, medium brown with warm, yellow undertones and a satin finish. I usually prefer my contour shades to be all matte but Toffee is one of the more shimmery contour shades. It adds a lovely glow to the cheeks, which is a look I'd definitely wear for Spring/Summer.
Sculpt is my favourite out of the four contour shades. It is a muted, medium brown with a hint of grey undertones. Sculpt is the perfect contour shade for my skin tone, it is matte and has a good colour payoff with a soft, silky texture. I love how blendable Sculpt is and I will 100% repurchase this shade.

Hollow is a dark brown with warm, reddish-orange undertones and a satin finish. The pigmentation is amazing and although this shade is way too dark for my skintone, it love wearing it as an eyeshadow to create a lovely smokey eye. That's what I love about this kit, it's extremely versatile.

This is definitely my new holy grail product when it comes to contouring. One of this palette's best features is the crazy amount of pigmentation and the fact that each shade can easily double up as an eye shadow. The consistency is incredibly soft, smooth and very blendable. I'd say this is a really lovely product and one I'd highly recommend trying.

Have you tried this palette? Are there any other contour kits you can recommend?
