Healthy Morning Habits

If the start of the day is good, then the rest of the day is bound to be good as well, right? I find that having a few healthy morning rituals can make all the difference and ensure that every morning is a good one or at least has the potential to lead to a fantastic day.

I've mentioned dry brushing on my blog before and I absolutely love doing it in the morning before showering. I always feel extremely energized afterwards and it really helps to improve your circulation and gets rid of dead skin cells. I typically brush my skin towards the heart, starting at the feet and brushing toward my chest. I'm using a brush that I bought from The Body Shop because the bristles are not too harsh on my skin and leaves it feeling much softer.

After dry brushing my body, I also have to take care of the rest of my skin. I like to keep my skincare pretty minimal in the morning and just cleanse it with water quickly before applying my favourite moisturizer the Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream. This moisturizer absorbs so quickly into my skin, creating a perfect base for my makeup. To wake up my under eye area, I love using the Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment. For some of you, this one might be better at night time but my under eye area is usually very dry so I need to apply a thick cream every morning.

I like to drink a big glass of lemon water first thing in the morning as I find it to be an excellent way to get your body going. It's not only insanely inexpensive to make but also a great Vitamin C source and loaded with healthy benefits. Drinking a glass of lemon water every morning aids your digestion, cleanses your system, promotes healing and really boosts your Immune System. I try to avoid having a big breakfast early in the morning because your digestion is weakest in the morning and bombarding it with a big load of food makes me feel rather sluggish so I like to stick to a light breakfast instead. I do think that a healthy breakfast is so important because you have to give your body all the nourishment it needs to provide you with lots of energy. I usually have a small bowl of porridge with fruit or a slice of whole grain bread with hummus and cucumber.

Now, I definitely don't get the chance or have the motivation to do this every morning but on the weekends, I like to exercise right after I wake up because I absolutely love how it makes me feel afterwards. It's so important to get moving in the morning as it gives you a lot of energy and kick starts your metabolism. I especially love doing this in the summer because I can exercise outside - fresh air and sunshine can definitely boost your energy and mood. I also think that it's worth investing in some good quality workout gear. This makes my workouts more enjoyable and I find myself to be more motivated to exercise in general.
